But we have one similar to the second that’s OK. The fire is screened and there is a screen on the chimney. Granted we don’t use it in the summer dry season, though when the fog moves in it would be nice!

The open pit stye at the top is problematical to some codes, but the enclosed one should be allowable in most areas. Are you in a particularly dry climate?
