My husband planted a package of the Fortex beans this spring but the weather conspired against us and only five sprouted. However, five plants proved to be more than sufficient for this couple -- what beautiful beans they were. Definitely first on the list next year!

my beans didn't do so well this year, neither did my clematises. i thought maybe because i planted the beans in my container garden on the 3d floor and might have been due to lack of pollinators. but not so, there were many bumblebees and hummers. i guess this year just wasn't that great for them. black krim tomatoes, beets and mass amounts of cukes and pickles on my patio this year. the hot weather was especially good for tomatoes and cukes!

This year we were given a variety of bean called 'Tung's Beans' that were brought to Canada by a Chinese immigrant over 100 years ago. Unfortunately, they were so tasty that people ate a few too many right off the bush when we meant to save seeds. I guess this is a case of a bean that is too kind for its own good.

Willi and Andrea - Quiet lurker here . . . I begged a friend who is a chef for his recipe for Eggplant Roulades for my 'Fairy Tale' Eggplant. I rarely make it to the 'roll each slice with mozzarella' step and end up eating all of the eggplant right out of the oven!

Willi - Oh, I have a tonne of eggplants, too! I can't remember the variety, but it's a Japanese eggplant, which are super tasty. But I'm at a loss, too. The best I can come up with is a stirfry, which isn't very inspired.

We had great luck with Fortex in Salt Lake City. Tried them here in Fort Worth this summer and only got TWO little beans. A rabbit ate some of the plants and the heat got to the others. We did have good luck with the pink-eye purple-hull peas. They are still going strong.

You're right! Fortex are kind beans. I had a terrible year with them, though.

Do you have any suggestions?

My beans didn't do very well this year (I'm a fan of 'Vernandon' and 'Garden of Eatin' myself), but my 'Fairy Tale' eggplants did so well. I've picked a big bunch and now am suffering as I try to decide what to do with them.
