My first garden.... Pretty much all the corn seed I planted has rotted. Is it too late to try again and pre-sprout the seed? I waited for the soil temp, but it temps cooled and it has rained consistently since planting... Any suggestions would be awesome!

I completely missed that. My Lettuce has been bolting for years. And while I knew what was happening, I missed the issues with a bolted crop. I will try out your suggestions!

Lindsay - I hear ya! Forget the tomatoes - I need a break from the rain! I feel like I'm growing mold.

Garden Peep - LOL. No doubt.

Jess - Yeah, I keep waiting for a warm spell to plant out my peppers and zucchinis, and so far, nada!

If I could just convince my regular flowers to bolt! :) A very cold spring and then a shift to a monsoon like summer here has all my plant confused.

Nice post. I can't believe all the rain we're having here in Portland though. I'd love for it to stop for a week so my tomatoes can catch a breather...

Stevie - I hear ya - I do exactly the same thing. I also will plant a spring and fall crop - skipping the summer crop - in some areas.

Willi - Good tips! Do you mean that they self-seed for a fall crop? Awesome! I've never tried that.

Laura - me too. It's the one time you can be thankful for a part-shade veggie garden!

Loree - Oh, I hear ya! Summer could arrive anytime now.

Great tips! I can always use the bolting reminder. Luckily I get good afternoon shade which will help keep the problem down during the warm season.

Super great post! When plants bolt in my garden I usually let them go to see. It is a super easy way to get a fall crop. When I'm in the mood to prevent bolting, I've often found that keeping the crop consistently moist helps, too.
