As with our host, always hard to figure out what tomatoes to grow. This has been a hard year for my tomatoes in south puget sound (I like to think zone 8b), close to the water. Had heavy set on early girl and roma, but few have ripened. The one surprise was my Black Krim, not very pretty, not crazy about texture, but tasty. Taxi and Sun Gold are the other ones that have provided some tomatoes this year for me. Oregon spring little fruit set.

Sasha - Of COURSE you grow Sasha's Altai! How could you not! Interesting that yours are always perfectly round... obviously there's some genetic diversity happening between seed companies.

Joseph - I think I will. I've heard lots about Black Krim. Thanks for the tip!

You should try Black Krim next year -- Brandywine and friends are WAY too late for me too (in Michigan) but Black Krim is even better tasting (it is AMAZING. Such a good tomato) and, thanks to its Russian ancestry, it is pretty early.

Hello,
We've grown Sasha's Altai for a couple of years now and find them to be pretty tasty and a really reliable producer. Ours are small, but always perfectly round. We also grew San Marzano plums, Zapotec Pleated, and Brandywines this year, plus a couple of cherry tomato volunteers that popped up after adding compost from an outside source. I think the Brandywines are probably the tastiest.
