First frost

October 30, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy 2 Comments

We had our first frost last night. It hit -3. I guess winter’s come earlier this year, as we normally don’t have a frost until well into November. Sigh… time to break out the tuque.

That really confuses me that you are so much further North than us and yet get a later frost. I see you are 8b vs us at 7b. Are you sheltered by mountains or warmed by ocean currents something?

Yep, that’s pretty much exactly it – we get the warm ocean currents coming up from Mexico plus we’ve got the Coastal mountain range sheltering us from the Alberta/prairie harshness. I think Seattle is the same zone – Vancouver is only a couple hours north.
