Woodland nursery

January 20, 2008 by Andrea Bellamy 11 Comments

With the baby due in under three months, it’s time to start thinking about where it’s going to live. (Actually, we know the future location of its habitat: our former TV room, or “media centre” as Ben liked to call it, but what said room is going to look like is completely open for discussion.)

I’m really grooving on  Amenity Nursery’s – Woods organic crib bedding. I love the gender-neutral palette, and of course, the nature-inspired print. Drool. Could this be the inspiration for the nursery’s theme? What better for a gardener and nature lover? (Photo from Design Public.)

Fabrics from the Aviary line of Joel Dewberry fabrics (via PurlSoho) would make great curtains and accent pillows.

I also love this tree, hand-cut from vintage wallpaper, from Enfant Terrible. I think I may have to copy this, especially the little birdhouse light.

lentil_room_coloursjpgBecause we don’t know the baby’s sex, we’re going gender-neutral (though I can’t see doing a pink or blue room, regardless). We are thinking of the above palette, with a greenish yellow called “Lemon Grass” as the main colour, “Cromwell Gray” for a feature wall and “Simply White” for the ceiling and trim (all from Benjamin Moore). Orange accents would punch it up a lot.

Further inspiration for a woodland nursery from Decor8’s mood board contest, and of course, from the marvelous Etsy:

Hi Katie – oh my gosh, is it out?? I haven’t even seen it yet. Better head over to a magazine stand and check it out. Thanks for the heads up :)

I had to laugh when I saw this post because this is exactly the sort of theme I had started preparing for my son’s nursury (he is due in 4 weeks, he’s our first). All of the baby clothes we have picked out for him are covered in foxes, hedgehogs, gnomes, chipmunks and raccoons. I may have to copy the tree and birdhouse as well, fantastic. Unfortunately we wont move into our new place for another 3 weeks, so it will be difficult to decorate it really well before he arrives.

Craig – Such good taste! ;)

Seriously, though, congratulations on your pending arrival. I can’t imagine moving at the same time! Good luck.

Love the look you are going for. I went with trees for my LO’s nursery as well. I found some decals (stickers) from Blic that made it super easy to put up.

    Congrats and good luck!

Thystle – thanks for sharing! I love what you’ve done in your little guy’s nursery. Especially love the butterflies escaping from the heating vent!

I like the woodland theme, but the tree absolutely kills me–it’s so cool! As far as those wallpapers go, I would like the flowering branches with the bird silhouettes for my bathroom, please. Gorgeous.

I’m loving the whole vibe you’ve got going there. I am inlove with the Aviary line of fabrics–too gorgeous!

Our babies are due around the same time. We’re expecting our daughter May 24th, but I have the feeling she’ll be here before that :-)

Good luck! Hope you’re still feeling energetic!

Kim – too cool, eh? It’s my favourite one of the four.

Colleen – Oh goody! Spring babies :) I’m feeling good – hope you are too!

All of the babyish clothes we accept best out for him are covered in foxes, hedgehogs, gnomes, chipmunks and raccoons. I may accept to archetype the timberline and birdhouse as well, fantastic. Unfortunately we wont move into our new abode for addition 3 weeks, so it will be difficult to adorn it absolutely able-bodied afore he arrives.
