Tomatoes and basil? What is this, August? California?

Nope. Just proof that sometimes, green tomatoes will ripen on the vine if you leave them long enough, even if it is nearly freezing out and all the other heat-lovers have given up the ghost.

    The last tomato plants came out last week and am still selling ripe and green tomatoes. Lots of Chinese greens, some lettuces, beets, sun chokes. Have a full hoop house of spinach, lettuce, pac choi, arugula to harvest in late November, Dec, Jan and Feb.

    We had some late ripening tomatoes also – though we ended up picking a lot of green ones and letting them ripen on the window sill.

    We are still picking radishes, carrots, and lettuce in the garden.

    Good for you! I’ve finished the tomatoes but have lots of other good things: shiitake mushrooms, beets, kale, potatoes, etc.

    Sadly, I too have harvested the last of the tomatoes. My greens are not taking off like I thought they would, but gardening has made me patient. So, I wait. The chickens should start laying as soon as they get comfy in their new digs. Can’t wait for buttery eggs!

    I only wish I had tomatoes and basil – that looks so lovely! I’m getting a bit of kale, but as I inherited my current garden when we moved in in May, I was so preoccupied with unpacking/painting/learning my way around a new city I didn’t get on the planting o new things on time :(
    A short time ago though I did plant garlic which I’m looking forward to months from now.

    Mmmmmm – Fuji and Braeburn apples,carrots, leeks, lettuce, spinach and Autumn Bliss raspberries – though they are pretty tart at this time of year! These raspberries just seem to keep flowering and fruiting til a hard frost takes ’em out!

    We’re traveling in Europe right now, but our harvest is mostly done in Ontario other than some herbs such as the parsley that is still tasting good, and of course some root vegetables. Oh, and my kale is like the superman of frost-tolerance.
