Dwell download

December 8, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy 3 Comments

There’s lots of great stuff in the December/January issue of Dwell magazine for gardeners. Here’s the low down. First up, there’s the Terradome Terrarium from ModernPast. I love this. It kind of reminds me of the Eames version but cleaner. Maybe I’d keep my indoor plants alive (I know, *shame*) if I had this. Then […]

Feeling fertile?

November 23, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy 2 Comments

It seems some celebs can’t go anywhere these days without exposing their no-so private bits. While no one really needs to see that, we admire flowers, while tending to forget that they are essentially a plant’s reproductive organs. Lysa Bromaroff reminds us by snapping Mother Nature in all sorts of compromising positions. Her company, Fertile […]

Retro planters

November 19, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy 2 Comments

Check out these funky retro planters from Pastense. First manufactured in postwar 20th century America, the planters reflected the era’s fascination with all things “space age” and “modern.” The Retro Bullet Planter is faithful to the vintage originals in shape, color, and the distinctive texture of compression-molded fiberglass. Available in three heights and many colours […]

The grass is always greener

September 22, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy Leave a Comment

I stumbled upon Greener Grass Design today, and while it’s not strictly garden-related, the Houston-based design and decor site carries lines by some fabulous designers. I love the idea behind this Shadylace Parasol by Chris Kabel for Droog Design. It’s a waterproof lace parasol with a leaf motif, casting shadows of branches and leaves. In […]

Wildlife for city dwellers

September 11, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy Leave a Comment

I wish I had a farm, or at least a few acres to spread out on. I’d have chickens and goats and alpacas and at least a few dogs. But since I’m stuck with my 200 sq.ft. city garden, where the only critters are cats, neighbourhood children and the occasional skunk, I’m loving these Salvor […]

Take your vitamins

July 18, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy 2 Comments

Check out the wonderfully bizarre Vitamin Living, a London-based design studio that makes “extra-ordinary products that make their owners’ lives a little less ordinary.” Like these bone china gnomes with their bold graphics; “the “must-have” gnome for the modern consumer.” ! Or how about the IV Plant Pot, a self-watering container with a medical drip […]

Topo Table

June 13, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy 2 Comments

I love this Topo Table from NONdesigns. Apparently, the designer “got tired of perfectly flat tables” so made TOPO out of common-countertop material Corian, plus plastic inserts formed over rocks which “drop into the table to form functional little landscapes.” Neato. Via Apartment Therapy.

Garden photography

April 27, 2006 by Andrea Bellamy 1 Comment

Photography. It seems to go hand-in-hand with being a gardener: this desire to capture the most fleeting of blooms, to record the brilliance that we have wrought from the earth. But we can’t all have expertise in both gardening and photography. We can, however, afford the work of someone who does. Alicia Bock describes herself […]
