Name that plant

April 13, 2009 by Andrea Bellamy 26 Comments

Nickel herb markers from Nina Gibson Designs. $28 for four. There’s nothing worse than a garden littered with nursery plant labels. Where each plant has a little plastic tombstone. Sure, labels might come in handy if you’ve forgotten whether it was Euphorbia ‘Blue Lagoon’ or ‘Blue Haze’ you planted, but does every pansy need to […]

Soji solar lighting

March 9, 2009 by Andrea Bellamy 8 Comments

There may be snow on the ground but just thinking about hanging a few of these Soji Modern solar lanterns from Allsop Home and Garden makes me want to plan a summer soiree. Like a Le Klint for the outdoors, these would look right at home on our back patio. And they’re solar. No cords! […]

Food Map Design

January 27, 2008 by Andrea Bellamy 1 Comment

Jon and Elizabeth of Food Map Design wrote to tell me about their newly-released Food Map container, a modern garden planter created using green design principles. As Food Map is “committed to reconnecting residential space and food cultivation,” the container was designed for growing edibles, but ornamentals probably wouldn’t complain either. In search of the perfect watering can

December 3, 2007 by Andrea Bellamy 1 Comment

My husband has given me an ultimatum: get rid of my watering can. He’s referring to my indoor watering can – an old, ugly mauve plastic job that normally sits on the kitchen counter because there’s never any room for it under the sink. So I can’t blame him for hating it, really. But now […]

Serve it up

November 7, 2007 by Andrea Bellamy Leave a Comment

Saw these botanical-print serving trays by Simrin, and knew Heavy Petal readers would adore them. You do, don’t you? No? What if I told you they are made by laminating hand-printed fabric between ridged vinyl sheets, so that each tray has a linen-like texture? And that they’re made in New York by a family-run company that’s been […]

Lovely letterpress

August 15, 2007 by Andrea Bellamy 7 Comments

I love the look and tactile nature of letterpress printing, and I’m fascinated by old herbal remedies. So it’s only fitting that I love these Notes to Grow On by Lizard Press on Etsy. Based on botanical illustrations from the German incunabula period [1450-1500AD], the cards come with a small packet of seeds. Lovely!

Lipstick that’s good for the environment? Sign me up! Check out Cargo Plant Love, lipsticks with packaging made out of corn and flower seeds. When your lippy is all used up, plant it and wait for a bouquet of wild flowers to grow. Love it! Via Daily Candy.

Campfire tealight holder

August 3, 2007 by Andrea Bellamy 2 Comments

A perfectly kitschy campfire tealight holder. Because even those little chimineas wouldn’t fly in my tiny backyard. US$19 from Park Life. Via Mighty Goods.
